Chuck Ragan comes to Rotterdam, Utrecht and Groningen this month with "Love And Lore"

10-01-2025

People discover Chuck Ragan in different ways. Some people know Ragan from the pioneering punk act Hot Water Music he’s co-fronted for the past three decades. Others are aware of his successful solo career or the Revival Tour, a collection of traveling troubadours that included his peers like Frank Turner and the Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon. Some folks may have even come across him from the successful fly fishing operation he runs out of Grass Valley, California. The one throughline through all this is the way that Ragan approaches everything with a level of honesty and integrity that can’t be faked—and that sentiment is undeniable on Love And Lore, his first solo collection in ten years. With it Chuck Ragan also comes to the Netherlands this month:

15/01: Rotterdam, NL - Rotown
18/01: Utrecht, NL - TivoliVredenburg
27/01: Groningen, NL - De Oosterpoort

Love and Lore is the result of a long, challenging journey. Originally conceived in 2016 and delayed by the pandemic, the album was finally recorded in 2023. Love and Lore marks Ragan's evolution as a songwriter, exploring new sonic territory and blending folk with rock influences. The album’s themes—family, relationships, and life's struggles—are deeply personal, reflecting Ragan’s experiences as a touring musician and father. Songs like “Echo The Halls” and “Winter” showcase his ability to bring new relevance to older material. With contributions from guitarist Todd Beene, drummer George Rebelo, and bassist Spencer Duncan, the album reflects a fresh dynamic and collaborative spirit.

Lyrically, Love and Lore delves into Ragan's personal journey of finding peace amidst life’s chaos. The stripped-down “Reel My Heart” explores the tension of balancing life on the road with family obligations. As Ragan says, the album represents closure, a release of emotions and thoughts that he can now put to rest.
